This video really made me think about my future career and where I want it to lead. I love the collaboration that incurs through online learning sources and want to be a part of bringing this to students and teachers. I think about my kids and how I want to teach and prepare them for a world so centered around technology and the facets it can be used for. This requires modeling and teaching them to be responsible digital citizens and utilizing technology in so many ways to prepare them to be qualified to pursue prestigious careers.
This TED talk was inspiring. I loved what he said about how the use of social media levels the playing field. Anyone can be a part. Its a way to reach across the world. The voting for the Mister Splashy Pants name got so many people involve din the cause, and aware of the cause. It's pretty cool to think about how anyone can inspire and touch such a massive group of people.
I immediately thought to share this with my intermediate teachers. Understanding and being able to analyze data is so important in our world today. Relating this skill to games, gambling, and analyzing trends is so meaningful and useful to students in today's society. I loved his statement that the world has changed from analog to digital and so has the mathematics world.
This was an amazing video for two reasons. Fantastic example of making technology accessible to more people, in particularly schools that can't afford today's innovations. It also reiterates that power of YouTube as an online video distribution. This man was able to change the education for millions with a video camera and YouTube.
This TED talk was very interesting. I would be interesting in learning more statistics about how sound effects us. I personally need silence to function. Loud sounds instantly increase my blood pressure and I can not focus with background noise. I was far too able to relate to the statistic that in an open plan office, 60% of productivity is lost. Building that I've worked in, and classrooms that I've visited, that attempt to function with so much constant noise and distraction are so unfortunate.
